On October 29, 2024, Seminole County High School was proud to welcome Ms. Tora Lemon from the Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center for an informative and engaging session. During her visit, all Healthcare Science students participated in a comprehensive training program that culminated in their certification in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA is a crucial federal law enacted in 1996 that sets the standard for protecting sensitive patient information. The certification ensures that individuals in the healthcare field understand the importance of safeguarding patient privacy and are knowledgeable about the regulations governing the use and sharing of medical records. With healthcare becoming increasingly digitized, this training is essential for anyone aspiring to work in the industry. Under the guidance of Mrs. Jennifer Hodges, BSN, RN, students in the Healthcare Science pathway have been diligently preparing for careers in various healthcare roles. Mrs. Hodges, provides invaluable support and mentorship to students, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the fast-paced healthcare environment. Ms. Lemon's visit not only enhanced students' knowledge of HIPAA regulations but also underscored the importance of ethical healthcare practices. The certification received by the students is a significant step toward their future careers, fostering a commitment to patient confidentiality and professionalism

This fall, Essentials of Healthcare Science students are deepening their understanding of the human body by studying the skeletal system. As part of this interactive lesson, students have been learning about the structure and function of various bones and practicing memorizing their names and locations. To bring the material to life, they created model skeletons, labeling each bone to solidify their understanding and make the anatomy lesson both visual and hands-on. The skeletal system serves as the body’s framework, supporting movement, protecting internal organs, and giving structure. Through this project, students have explored the roles of major bones like the femur, humerus, ribs, and vertebrae. Learning to identify each bone helps them understand the interconnectedness of body systems, as well as the importance of bone health in overall wellness. Creating labeled skeletons not only allows students to engage with the material in a fun, memorable way, but it also provides a festive touch for the season. What better way to embrace the fall spirit than with lessons on the human skeleton? By blending education with creativity, students have found an engaging way to enhance their knowledge, laying a foundation for future healthcare studies.

This Halloween season, Seminole County’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members, officers, and advisor Jennifer Hodges took part in one of their favorite annual events: the community trunk or treat. At this festive gathering, FCCLA students handed out candy to children from all around Seminole County, bringing joy, smiles, and a bit of Halloween magic to the event. Each year, FCCLA eagerly anticipates trunk or treat, as it provides them with a chance to connect with the community and contribute in a meaningful way. FCCLA members decorated their trunk in fun Halloween themes, dressed up in costumes, and welcomed local children for a memorable, safe, and candy-filled evening. The event was more than just a holiday celebration; it was an opportunity for FCCLA members to practice communication skills, connect with families, and provide community service that aligns with their organization’s values. By interacting with children and their families, FCCLA students strengthen their interpersonal skills and gain experience working as a team, all while spreading positivity. Events like trunk or treat are essential in shaping FCCLA members as young leaders and engaged community members, and they help students build connections with their future schoolmates. With advisor Jennifer Hodges leading the way, Seminole County FCCLA looks forward to trunk or treat each year, knowing it’s a chance to share the Halloween spirit and give back to the community. The event has become a cherished tradition, bringing joy to young children and valuable experience to FCCLA students who aim to make a lasting impact in their community.

Seminole County High School recently celebrated the induction of its newest Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members and officers with a special induction ceremony and breakfast. Led by advisor Jennifer Hodges, the event marks an important milestone for these students as they officially join an organization that offers opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and career exploration. FCCLA is a national organization focused on developing leadership and life skills through Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) education. By participating in FCCLA, students gain hands-on experience in areas such as community service, leadership, and career preparation. They are encouraged to explore various career paths in fields like education, culinary arts, fashion design, and hospitality, equipping them with valuable skills for their futures. Through FCCLA, students can participate in regional and national competitions, where they present projects, develop public speaking skills, and practice problem-solving. These activities not only enhance their confidence but also allow them to connect with peers and mentors, expanding their network beyond the classroom. Additionally, FCCLA members learn the importance of contributing to their communities through service projects, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. The recent induction ceremony at Seminole County High School welcomed a new cohort of students eager to positively impact their school and community. With the guidance and support of advisor Jennifer Hodges, these FCCLA members are now part of an organization that will empower them with skills to succeed in their personal and professional lives.
