2025 Teach in the Peach Future Educator Signing Day May 6, 2025, was declared by the state of Georgia as Future Educator Signing Day, and SCMHS was thrilled to honor Kynia Blake for her commitment to becoming an educator. Kynia will be attending Valdosta State University and majoring in Middle Grades Education in hopes of one day teaching math. Since 2016, GA has hosted a Future Educator Signing Day during Teacher Appreciation Week, allowing local systems a chance to honor their students who have committed to becoming an educators. This year, it was hosted in conjunction with Teach in the Peach, Georgia’s new teacher recruitment campaign, which is focused on making Georgia the number one state for teachers to teach in. Because this year’s event has grown substantially with the merger of the Teach in the Peach initiative, each school was able to apply for one scholarship for a student they felt was deserving. Only 30 scholarships were awarded in the entire state, and Kynia was chosen for one of the $500 scholarships. Those in attendance to help celebrate Kynia included her parents, Jaunwanta King and Kenneth Blake, her siblings Kyauna Blake and Jayvione King. Her very close friends, Aubr’e Warren and Aminah Johnson, along with her godmother, Keretha Williams. Her employer, Billie McClendon, Director of Family Connections, and Erin Lenz, also from Family Connections. Mr. Mark Earnest, Superintendent, Mrs. Mary Jean Albritton, Principal, Mrs. Kathryn Touchton, CTAE Director and Teaching as a Profession Instructor, and Mr. Keith Helms, Kynia’s inspiration for wanting to become a math teacher. Congratulations to Kynia, and we wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavors. #gaeducatorssigningday25 #gafutureeducator #CTAEdelivers #TeachinthePeach

8th Grade Breakfast Celebration A heartfelt thank you this morning as our 8th-grade students were honored with a wonderful breakfast that celebrated their incredible journey through middle school. The event, lovingly prepared by our dedicated parents and supported by our amazing school administration, was a touching tribute to these young students who are about to embark on their high school adventure. The breakfast was more than just a meal – it was a moment of recognition, marking the significant milestone of transitioning from middle school to high school. Parents and school staff came together to create a warm, supportive environment that made our 8th graders feel truly special and appreciated. Their hard work, growth, and potential were celebrated with delicious food, shared laughter, and heartfelt moments of reflection. We are grateful for the community's support in making this transition memorable and meaningful for our students, acknowledging their achievements and preparing them with confidence for the exciting challenges that lie ahead in high school.

Good afternoon 8th grade parents, We wanted to clarify some details about the upcoming 8th grade breakfast. This event is specifically for the 8th grade students. It is not a parent function, and we can only accommodate parents who have signed up via the link sent out for the purpose of setting up, serving, and cleaning up. If you’ve volunteered to provide breakfast items, we greatly appreciate your donation! However, providing items is separate from volunteering to serve and attending the event. Since the breakfast will be held in a smaller space, we do not have the capacity to accommodate all students along with extra parents. We apologize for any confusion and appreciate your understanding and continued support of our students.
