Hello SCMHS! Geisha Smith, here, writing your weekly highlight. This week we are going to highlight our basketball teams. These teams have worked so hard and props are due! As of now, the girls are 8-5 and the boys are 9-1 overall. I asked some of the players, “What keeps you going?”. Nicavious Henderson stated, “I can accept failure. Everyone fails at something but what I can’t accept is not trying.” Zachery King stated, “If you quit once it becomes a bad habit.
I enjoyed talking with both head coaches and asked them how the season has been and how they feel about it. Coach Ingram gave these words: “We are at the halfway point in our season. We are 8-5 overall and 5-2 in region play. We have lost some close region games due to turnovers and missed layups, but we have been working on taking care of the basketball and hitting layups in practice. We are also working on competing harder and playing as a team for the 2nd half of the season. I feel like we can do these things I have talked about and will have a great chance to win more games in the 2nd half of the season.”
When I asked Coach Jake Page his thoughts about the season this far he replied with this: “Adversity is something every great team goes through. We’ve had some and will go through more throughout the remainder of the season. We will have to come together and be disciplined to finish strong. It is not how you start, it is how you finish!”
