On Wednesday, 26 Seminole County FFA and 4-H members traveled to Perry, Georgia to exhibit their livestock projects including swine and beef cattle in the Georgia Junior National Livestock Show. Thursday began the first of three days of competition and started with Showmanship. In showmanship, a judge is looking for the student’s skill of showing their animal to its fullest potential. Students show according to grade level and each grade level averaged 100-120 students in swine. Even with such stiff competition, many of our FFA members were successful throughout the day. Elizabeth Ausley placed third overall in Senior Showmanship and went on to show in the 4-H Masters competition. Meg Mathis placed sixth overall in 8th grade showmanship. Bethann Smith, Drew Smith and Ethan Ausley were chosen to come back to a final drive from their heat of the show. In the cattle barn, Ethan Ausley placed second in the First Year Steer Show. We are proud of our members and can’t wait to see how they do in the Market Barrow and Market Gilt shows on Friday and Saturday! scscscsc
