PowerSchool

PRESS RELEASE - JANUARY 14, 2025

We are writing to inform you about a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the vendor responsible for our Student Information System (SIS) from July 2008 until June 2024.

Please note, this incident was not caused by a breach at the school or district level. Earlier this year, we began transitioning from PowerSchool to the Infinite Campus SIS platform, primarily due to the enhanced cybersecurity measures it offers. We are still in the process of completing this transition, and during this time, our data remained hosted on PowerSchool’s cloud servers.

On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified us of unauthorized access to certain customer data. Regrettably, the data impacted by this incident includes information from some of Seminole County School families and educators.

The affected data primarily consists of teacher, parent, and student contact information, such as names and addresses. In some instances, more sensitive personal information, such as social security numbers (SSNs) and medical details, may have been compromised. PowerSchool is actively investigating the scope of the breach and working to determine if any personally identifiable information (PII) specific to our students and teachers was impacted.

At Seminole County School District, the protection of our students and staff and their data is of utmost importance. We are working closely with PowerSchool to provide you with further details and any available resources, including credit monitoring or identity protection services, should they be necessary.

We understand the concern this may cause, and we will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
