The Seminole County MHS Health Science classes are off to a great start… a $21,158 start!!! CTAE Director Kathryn Touchton, along with Health Science instructor Jennifer Hodges, worked together to apply for a grant to help purchase curriculum and equipment for our new pathway offering, Allied Health and Medicine. The grant was awarded last spring and all items are now in use in our Health Science classes.
The Georgia Department of Education’s Office of Rural Education and Innovation (REI) and Office of Career Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) in partnership with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Foundation through the Georgia Chamber’s Center for Rural Prosperity, awarded $3 million in grants to rural districts for projects designed to increase workforce preparedness. SCMHS was thrilled to be awarded the entire amount requested, which was used to purchase an entire Allied Health Curriculum package. This package included an AED Simulator, Blood Pressure Simulator, BVM Ventilation Trainer, RealCare Infant Health and Safety Learning Package, and a Multipurpose Venous Training Arm, as well as many curriculum sets to teach medical terminology, legal issues, and caring for all types of patients.
Seminole Allied Health and Medicine pathway students are super excited about their classes and can’t wait to get started learning, training, and becoming prepared for the workforce! Thank you, GA Chamber of Commerce and all other partnering entities, for giving Seminole students this amazing opportunity.
